I always talk about HIPAA and protecting your patients data. Today I want to talk about your employee information. It is just as important to protect employee information as it is patient information. Sensitive data is sensitive data. Think about it. What type of employee information is in your Human Resources file? Address, date of birth, social security number, etc. If any of this information becomes lost or stolen, your staff or our Doctors will experience a very painful case of identity theft.

Employee Information

Your employee information should be protected with encryption and good solid encrypted backups. The last thing you want to do is tell your employees that their personal information has leaked out. Taking the same precautions you take for HIPAA can definitely help you prevent this. Keep data behind locked doors, limit the access to employee data, back it up, and never give it out to anyone without proper authorization. Keeping this information is vital in keeping your employees and their families safe.
