Earlier this year we were made aware of the “can you hear me now?” scam. I just wanted to review it one more time. If you pick up your phone and on the other end you hear “can you hear me now?” Hang up! Scammers are trying to steal your voice! The idea is to get you to say “yes” so they can use your voice for for unauthorized purchases, charges or stolen credit card charges.
How it hurts
The caller already has your phone number, now they have your voice saying “yes”. You have also proven that your phone number is valid, and you are amenable to answering the phone. Those few tools alone can cause you tons of headaches. If you get this call, and on the other line, you hear…”Can you hear me now?” hang up and don’t speak to them! See the video below.
