I often tell my technicians not to suggest new hardware to solve a problem. You don’t have to spend money all of the time. Sometimes it takes patience, tenacity and collaborating with other techs to get an issue fixed. The problem is…does the client have patience? When someone is working on your PC, you want it fixed NOW. Unfortunately in this business, it’s a lot of “let’s try this and see.” If it doesn’t work, we try something else. If that doesn’t work, we try something else. You don’t have to spend money all the time to solve the problem.
You Don’t Have To Spend Money
A lot depends on your tolerance. Can you be patient for a technician to try upgrading memory for a slow computer before running out and buying a new one? Do you have the patients to let us run a scan and see if that works? Again, you don’t always have to spend money to get the results you want out of your PC. I will admit, sometimes we try things, you have the patience, and we still end up having to purchase a new PC.
What I have seen out of various technicians is that when they throw their hands up in the air, they want the client to purchase hardware. We are very cognizant of that want to make sure we are not wasting the clients money. Buying new hardware does not always solve the problem. Believe me, I would love to sell my clients new hardware but in good faith, I refuse to until all options have been looked at.
If you have a technician that is constantly telling you to purchase new hardware, challenge them a little bit. Make sure that you truly need it. A PC that is 18 months old should not have to be replaced. Weigh the options and know you hardware. It will help you make better decisions.
