It looks like CVS is joining the Doctor business. It was announced on June 5th, 2019 that they will be turning 1,500 stored into HealthHUBs. Don’t worry, they are not giving physicals and exams. They are dedicating 20% of the store to services including “new product categories, digital tools and on-demand health kiosks, trusted advice and personalized care.” The goal is to become a community based health hub for patients to ask questions, talk about prescriptions, insurance coverage and their own health conditions.

Keep in mind that CVS recently merged with Aetna. The goal is to become an integrated healthcare provider, and to be an influence in transforming healthcare delivery. Walgreens has been working aggressively on this and CVS needs to do this in order to compete and keep up.

From what I have been reading and hearing, a hub will open in Atlanta some time in 2019. I will be curious to see how this pans out. I am not opposed to this, especially for people that have no insurance, but it worries me sometimes when the insurance company tries to control healthcare.

Let’s see how it goes.
