Are you starting an IT business? Tier3MD has been in business since 2005 and when I think of all the challenges, changes, new technology, staff, etc. that I have been through in the past 12+ years, I shutter at the thought of starting an IT business. At the same time, I would do it all over again! I absolutely love the Information Technology field and if I had to do it again, I would still focus solely on medical practices.

Changes over the Years

When I first started in 2005, I would go out and fix PC’s and earn $100 per hour plus travel. We certainly can’t do that anymore! By the time you get there, fix the PC (in some cases, long scans for viruses) you may be there for 4 hours. For what you would charge them, they could more easily go out and buy a new PC. Can’t do that anymore. Welcome remote managed services!

Remote Managed Services

Changing to remote managed services seriously helped my IT business. Just to be able to resolve things quickly, push out patches, manage large numbers of workstations and servers has made both our lives, and the clients much easier. It is such a great offering.

Starting an IT Business

If you are starting an IT business, the first thing you want to look at is branding. I can’t stress enough to SPEND THE MONEY! As an IT company, you don’t want to look like you have bad technology! Go ahead and invest up front if you want show people you are on top of technology.

Starting an IT business could be fun and stressful at the same time. There is a lot to know, and a lot to do. Hire a business consultant. I will be worth it.
